Linda assisted a patient that was admitted to MICU. The patient was brought to UF Heath ED via Ambulance transport, later admitted to ICU for DKA. Upon admission he verbalized concern for his dog that was left in his vehicle. He stated that he didn't expect to get admitted; he was just going in for a quick check up and did not plan to be gone long. He stated that he didn't have any family or friends nearby that could pick up the dog. Linda, being a dog lover, was immediately involved in retrieving the dog. The truck was in a locked fenced parking lot. JSO was called to assist in retrieving the dog from the vehicle. Trenton Benjamin and Stephanie Scott (MICU PCA) were sent to meet the officer with the patient's car keys. The dog was retrieved safely, fed, and later brought to Linda's home. The patient was informed his beloved dog was in good hands and was grateful for this heroic measure from the unit staff. Linda continued to care for his dog, taking turns with RT Vicki Benson when she's working.
This act of kindness proves the staff character for going above and beyond their roles and responding quickly to the unique situation that was presented to them.
