Please help us congratulate Kyra Newberry, RN as University Medical Center's May 2013 DAISY Nurse! Kyra Newberry, RN, made a huge impression on a family of newborn twins in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with her acts of compassion and kindness.

Our Twins were in NICU. All the nurses were great, but one stood out Kyra Newberry! She went above and beyond! After we got home a package showed up at our house. In the package were two dresses hand sewn from Kyra for our girls!

We were living the dream of a family, but after being home with the girls for only three days, my wife was having headaches. An MRI was done and my wife was diagnosed with brain tumors at 26 years old. We were scheduled for an appointment with a neurologist at UMC and since we are from Hobbs, Kyra opened her home to us and offered to take care of the twins on her days off while my wife received treatment. Instead, we were instructed to go straight to Houston for treatment.

We just got done with surgery and are now waiting on radiation and chemo to stop the rest of the tumor. Kyra still texts us and prays for us while we go through this with 2 young girls waiting for their "Momma" to get better. Thank you for everything you have done Kyra! Love you lots!"

This story is a great example of "Service is Our Passion" through acts of kindness and compassion. Kyra's selflessness is seen daily in the NICU as she creates beautiful dresses for all her patients. Thank you Kyra for providing our patients with excellent care!
