“In every society, there are ‘human benchmarks’- certain individuals whose behavior becomes a model for everyone else- shining examples that others admire and emulate. We call these individuals ‘class acts.’’’ Kris Rulloda, RN, is a class act and a deserving recipient of the DAISY Award.
Kris was hired as a Staff nurse on 5 East in 2006. His clinical skills, leadership ability, and enthusiasm quickly elevated him to PFC status. Kris serves on the Nurse Practice Council and 5 East Unit Based Council, he holds ANCC certification in medical-surgical nursing, and he is part of the Clinical Nurse Recognition Program.
Kris is a team player and true professional. We appreciate his ability to start difficult IV s, to keep calm on stressful days, and to deal with difficult patients and families. When Kris enters a patient’s room, you can visually see the patient relax as he/she realizes that Kris is a ‘can-do’ nurse.
Earlier this year, a young female patient became paralyzed following a car accident. When the patient spotted Kris one night after a long shift and asked him to sign her high school yearbook, Kris did not hesitate. Kris kneeled down beside this young woman’s wheelchair, talked to her like an old friend, and filled her yearbook with written well wishes for the future.
We are proud of Kris and all that he does for 5 East and its patients. Kris is the patient experience and we can think of no one more worthy of a DAISY Award than him.
