Having been a patient for most of the last 2 weeks of my pregnancy, I had many nurses. While there were several worth mentioning for their great care one stands above the rest. Kelley Keenum was wonderful. The first night I met her I knew she was special. I hate to admit it but I am a terrible patient. I do not tolerate pain well, I am whiney, and I hate to feel that I'm not in control. Kelley was my nurse several different nights and she was always calm, attentive and thorough. Even though I was very needy, she always sincerely asked if I needed anything else before leaving my room. I never felt once that she minded doing anything I asked her, whether it be starting a new IV or bring pain medication or pass me something from the other side of the room. She even went out of her way to get me what I was craving at 10:30 pm. This may not seem like a very big deal, but it was. I had to have my gallbladder removed and I was pregnant. I have been having problems eating and I finally felt like eating and just mentioned to her what I was craving. It took her a while to find it, but she made sure I got it. Having been the recipient if the DAISY Award myself, I really hope she can experience this great honor as well. She is most deserving. Not only are her nursing skills top notch, but so is her bedside manner and compassion. She is such a blessing to me while hospitalized.
