1LT Joycelyn (Joy) Neville has made a significant positive impact on the patients of the MSU. One particular case was a patient who had an emergency tracheostomy after what should have been a routine surgery. Joy has had quite a bit of experience in taking care of trach patients. When the patient was transferred from the ICU to BACH, Joy volunteered to come to work on her day off to help with his care. She took the initiative to help with competencies for the rest of the staff. Joy made sure all staff knew she is just a phone call away if there are any questions or concerns about this (or any other) patient's care. Along with ensuring the MSU staff was well educated on trach care, Joy took the time to explain to the patient and his family about his care and ensured they were involved in every step. While there were many people involved in this patient's care, Joy spearheaded his care.

Her compassion for her patients makes her stand out among her peers as a nurse that can be counted on for her gentle nursing care, technical skills, and ability to educate patients and fellow staff.
