I was a patient at Munson hospital. I came in to have a brachytherapy procedure. I arrived at the hospital at 5 am and was brought up to the surgical waiting room. As I was sitting in the waiting room, I was feeling a little apprehensive and down about what I was about to face. After a short wait, Jill came to get me. She was very nice and cheerful, especially at that time in the morning. She took me to the pre-op area and got me ready for OR. During this time, she was exceptionally nice, considerate and professional. She mentioned that the anesthesiology staff assigned to me were top notch. I began to feel relaxed and upbeat and I was actually looking forward to getting on with the procedure. I became so relaxed and chatty that I hardly noticed that Jill was starting an IV on me. I felt that she truly cared about me and my time here; so please thank her for me. I could not have hoped for better pre-op care than what I received.

Nurse Jill works overnights in the PACU. In this position, she often sees patients at their most fragile moments, either in the pre or post phases of an unexpected surgery. Surgery can be a scary time for patients and still, with her friendly demeanor and knowledge base of Perianesthesia, Jill is able to make special connections with her patients and their families. As her co-worker, I see Jill exemplify extraordinary care at Munson every day. She makes sure her patients know that she genuinely cares. She makes sure her co-workers feel supported as well. Working at night she wears many hats, recovering patients from surgery and acting as a liaison with worried loved ones of patients. She does all of this with grace and a smile. Recently, a patient came in for a procedure and Jill really made a difference in his experience. What this patient didn't know was that Jill was able to show this patient how much she cared and to lift his spirits at the end of her overnight shift. Jill is an asset to the PACU, to Munson and to all of those who receive her care. She goes above and beyond to make patients and their families comfortable and to educate them on what to expect before and after surgery.
