Nursing is truly Jennifer's calling. She is wonderful with the patients, not only friendly and caring, but also as a strong advocate. Not a day goes by that I do not receive a patient or family compliment regarding Jen during leader rounding or discharge call backs. She spends quality time making a connection with her patients, and they recognize this. She has been referred to as an "angel", and I have had to "fight" with many patients who have said that they wanted to take her home with them. One situation of recent time that stands out in my mind for which I would like to recognize Jen for demonstrates what a caring, compassionate human being and advocate that she is.

Jen was caring for a patient on Unit 42, when during her shift the patient's husband became unstable on the neighboring unit, resulting in a RRT. Her patient, obviously concerned, wanted a status update on her husband. Jen spoke with the APN involved, waited for the patient to be stabilized and coordinated with the APN and primary RN of the husband for the two patients to see each other in the hallway. On the way to transferring the husband down to critical care, Jen, with some other staff help, pushed her patient in her bed out into the hallway where the two units meet and allowed the husband and wife to see and speak to each other. This truly made a difference for both of them, but especially Jen's patient, who was able to see for herself how her husband was doing and to tell him that she loved him.

Jennifer is the epitome of nursing, and I believe she is extraordinary and worthy of the DAISY Award.
