I would like to express my gratitude to the best nurse we have ever had in ICU, Isolde.
My father was a patient in your hospital numerous times over the past 2 years, each time receiving great care. Two weeks ago, my father was brought to Bay Medical Center ER via ambulance and admitted to ICU. His nurse on 2nd floor ICU was Isolde. Isolde is not an ordinary nurse. She is an extraordinary nurse.
After admission, my father never gained consciousness. However, Isolde treated him like you would a patient that was aware of his surroundings, offering comfort by explaining in detail exactly what she was doing. Whether it was changing his IV, brushing his teeth, or asking him to squeeze her hand, she treated him as if he were aware of everything going on around him. She walked into the room and greeted him each and every time, even though he was at the end of his journey here on Earth. She kept the family well informed and allowed our very large family time together with him. We apologized time and time again, thanking her for allowing us all to be in the ICU room with him, but Isolde always smiled and said there were exceptions to every rule. She was by far, hands down, the most compassionate and knowledgeable nurse we have ever had and you are lucky to have her at your hospital.
When the time came for us to make some hard decisions, Isolde was there to offer support. When dad was transferred to the Hospice Unit in the hospital, Isolde accompanied us, not only to make sure everything went smoothly with him being transported to another location but to be that support that my family and I came to rely on.
The Lord called daddy home 1 day after admission into the Hospice Unit. Though it was a sad week as we all said our goodbyes to our daddy and watched our mom grieve the loss of her husband of 60 years, Isolde made a bad situation brighter with a smile, a kind word, and a heart full of compassion she showered upon him.
I've always said it takes a special person to be a nurse and Isolde Nelson is that person. From all of us to her, thanks so very much.
