Ida wanted to make sure for herself that this patient had the correct medications ordered.

Yesterday we transferred a patient from another floor and while reviewing the patient's medications, she became concerned at the way they were handling the patient's home medication.  This patient is a recent transplant.  Ida went above and beyond to make sure the physician team was aware and reordered all the patient's medications that were home supplied and that were not being given appropriately.  Ida then had to face the father who came to see the patient when they were transferred to our unit.  He realized that the patient was not being dosed correctly and he was so thankful that Ida reviewed all his medications with him.

I was so thankful she showed compassion and even though it was right at shift change, she called the MDs and did not just leave it on the night shift nurses to do.  She did not care that she was going to be late or even though it was a long day she wanted to make sure for herself that this patient had the correct medications ordered.  Patients with antirejection medications, you must give at the correct time and dosage.  I believe Ida did everything in her power to make sure this patient's medications were filled correctly.

Thank you Ida for showing us all how to make sure we keep patients safe and comfortable.
