Hetal Rathod, RN – The Troy Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses – January 2010 – Troy Beaumont Hospital

Her compassion for being the “best nurse” is exceptional. There are three areas which exemplify her actions.

First of all, as a compassionate care giver she shows respect for patients and their families.

One of her patients commented “Although I had many wonderful nurses during my stay here, Hetal stands out for many reasons: (1) I felt very safe and secure in her care. She kept me informed of procedures, results, meds, etc. (2) She showed a genuine interest and care for me as a person not just a “Patient.” She was positive and cheerful, keeping me clam through several frightening episodes. I felt she was always on top of everything concerning my care.”

Another patient wrote, from the moment Hetal walked in my room I knew she was very special. Her calm caring and concerned spirit was an amazing blessing to me. Hetal took ownership of every aspect of his case. She is an extraordinary example of what a nurse should be.

These were two examples of her ability to understand patient’s needs. Her strong communication, listening and interpersonal skills are to be commended.

The second area which depicts Hetal is her excellent mentoring skills. Every quarter Oakland University student nurses are on our unit in PCU. Some comments from the students were “Hetal is very helpful and patient with student nurses; she explains procedures and allows students to perform tasks. She is a wonderful nurse who cares the most about the patients that she is treating and treats everyone with respect. She was great to work with !!!

The third area which Hetal exemplifies is her ability to go above and beyond to help out all staff on the unit.
