Doug transferred to the ER from Acute Care in November of 2011. He has demonstrated an eagerness to learn and has adapted well to the ER. He demonstrates positive customer service, evidenced by a recent letter I received from a patient’s girlfriend.

“A truck driver and his girlfriend were headed to Florida from Michigan and started having chest pain. When arriving to the ER, they were assigned to Doug. The girlfriend describes Doug as “very friendly, funny and professional. He made genuine conversation with us about our lives, the truck, and all the tests the patient was undergoing. Doug felt like an old friend, someone we have known for years. Doug has a truly exceptional bedside manner.”

The patient was transferred to Dayton, while the girlfriend stayed in the semi truck at Wilson Hospital. Doug provided her with bottles of water, crackers and peanut butter, phone numbers and addresses to Wilson Hospital and Good Sam and directions from here to there. He also asked the security guard to escort the girlfriend back to their truck.

Doug demonstrated exemplary service and compassion and is becoming an excellent ER nurse – This is why I am nominating him for the DAISY Award.
