One of the patient's on 1 South had been through a lot. She got frustrated because she was only expecting 1-2 days stay in the hospital. She was not assigned to me as my patient but I was able to help her one time to use the commode. I asked her how she was doing, she was in a good mood. She said for the first time since she's been in the hospital she was able to have a decent sleep thanks to Dorothy. She said everyone treated her well but Dorothy gave her the best care. She was in a lot of pain; also getting anxious and frustrated which she didn't realize. It was her first time to have Dorothy as her nurse that night. Dorothy called the doctor and received an MD order for medication. Dorothy told the patient that she not only needs the pain med but also "something" to help her relax "because of what she's going through at that time." Patient said "how come nobody else thought of that?!!"

Not only did she give her the medication but also gave her a bath and changed her linens despite Dorothy's busy assignment. That night I was so impressed with Dorothy. She truly deserves to be a DAISY Award Honoree!"
