Debbie Pearson is a shining example of a DAISY nurse. She is always positive and upbeat with her patients and takes time to connect with them on a personal level. She is the recipient of many positive comments on discharge phone calls and nurse leader rounds.

Recently, there was a patient in the final stages of cancer on Debbie's unit for 41 days. During that time all of our nurses cared for her, but Debbie made a strong impression on the family. She sat and talked with the husband and the patient's parents about end of life choices. She took time to explain to them her own feelings, questions and concerns that she had when her own father was dying from cancer. The patient was finally discharged on hospice and died 3 days later. The patient's mother called and asked if Debbie would speak at her funeral. Debbie was surprised. She didn't know what else to say but yes. She said, "How can I say no?" Debbie spoke at her funeral and several staff members accompanied her for support. Debbie not only made a difference in the patient's life while she was here on earth but she made a difference in the life of the patient's family at a very difficult time. Debbie's work is truly worthwhile and makes a difference.
