I went into labor very abruptly and my husband was not able to get to the hospital in time. Deb stayed with me the entire time I was in labor. She held my hands while I cried because I was scared and in pain and wished my husband were there. She reassured me that I could do it and helped me get through each contraction, she was firm with me when I wanted to give up, but she also held me and comforted me when I needed it. She asked me questions about myself to help me feel comfortable and distract me from the pain. I was touched by how she never left my side and made sure I didn't feel lonely and minimized my fear. My birth could've been a terrible and sad experience since I was without anyone I knew to support me and I felt like I would be by myself, but she took an experience that could've been awful and actually made it okay. I wish my husband could've been there but, thanks entirely to Deb, I won't look back at my birth as a sad or lonely one. She made it calm and as easy as it could be and I will never forget her.
