Crystalyn has a warm compassionate approach when she interacts with her patients and their loved ones. She extends herself to ensure that all patients/families feel included in the nursing process and she spends a great deal of time making sure that they understand what is happening.

Recently Crystalyn admitted a young 21 year old patient to 2sw. He was diagnosed with terminal cancer. His parents traveled from Philadelphia to be here at NYP. Prior to their arrival, housing arrangements had been made with the social worker to secure a room at the Ronald McDonald house for the parents. The patient was admitted late in the evening to his room in the ICU. Only after the patient's admission did the parents realize there was an issue with their reservation to Ronald McDonald house and would not have anywhere to stay for the week. Crystalyn sought out the help of the covering social worker but unfortunately was not available. Crystalyn then went onto the website for Ronald McDonald house to seek out more information and also spoke to a few different individuals. Crystalyn became slightly frustrated because the referrals for this type of housing had to be done by a social worker. She ultimately found a way to make an RN referral and proceeded to confirm housing for these parents. This is a wonderful demonstration of caring and concern and a clear example of family focused care.
