Our loved one was brought into St. Alexius Medical Center ER from the rehab center where she was at because of breathing problems. As time went on, her breathing became worse and she was admitted to the ICU and ended up with a breathing tube for over 10 days.It was our worst nightmare! From the moment she was brought into that room, we can honestly say that God gave us the best possible care for her. Every nurse that came into that room either to assist her with a smile or to help save her life was an angel from heaven. We could not pray for anyone better.
It was her 91st birthday while she was in the ICU. The nurses came in and sang to her, brought a poster size card they made, made flowers out of cardboard, brought a drink from Starbucks and gave her a taste from on a sponge on her lips, and toasted with our family for her birthday. They allowed us as a family to bring in 26 people throughout the day to show our love for her birthday! It was amazing! As the days went on, every day was the same.We did not know if she would ever breathe on her own again.Cindy always came in with a smile every day and always encouraged us that she was getting better. No matter what she had to do for her, even if it was painful, she always said, "I'm sorry honey, it will be over soon."Every nurse that came into her room deserves the DAISY Award for their timeless effort and genuine loving care for our loved one. We could not have made it through this difficult time without Cindy's encouragement and love. Her care was above and beyond her normal job.
