My father was a patient in the Heart Care Unit. For two and a half days he was under the care of one of the nurses on staff, Chentile Goodman. Chentile was instrumental in making the hospital stay as comfortable as possible for my father and his guests. He was transferred from the outpatient observation section to your section around 6 PM. This seems imprudent as shift change is 7 PM, but Chentile was able to absorb his information and transfer it to the night nurse all the while multitasking with the other beds under her care without complaint.
Chentile always provided an environment where we were free to ask questions and we had plenty for her. If she did not know the answer, she would call someone who would immediately. Chentile consistently responded promptly to my father's needs to ensure he was both safe and comfortable in his room. She was an exemplary model for the Howard Community College Student that was doing her field placement work. Rather than harshly criticizing a minor mistake about resetting the volume after changing an IV bag, Chentile used it as an important teachable moment, proving that she cares not only for her patients, but also her fellow staff.
While many of the nurses in the hospital provided adequate care, Chentile stood out as a role-model for anyone trying to balance a demanding service job with family life. Given the nature of any cardiac floor, it was not uncommon seeing her dart between rooms, or even hallways if her patients happened to be in dialysis. This is all the more remarkable given her pregnancy. Whether being first to respond and start CPR on a patient or assisting an elderly man with his mobility needs, Chentile is an excellent example of a loving and caring nurse that truly loves her job and provides superior care to her patients.
