Chelsea Pressley was pulled to our unit from the secondfloor. It turned out being win-win for the patient, the unit, and Chelsea.
Chelsea displayed such a positive attitude the whole day while she was in our unit. She discharged a patient to the floor and admitted another patient to the unit, which we don't usually require of our float nurses. Chelsea displayed respect toward the Clinical Leader, practiced teamwork with the PIC staff that was contagious. As Chelsea admitted her new patient, she realized they were a patient she had in the past on the second floor. They voiced they had been reluctant to be admitted to the PICU but after seeing Chelsea, she now made them feel comfortable. Her being in the right place at the right time increased a family's sense of well-being. If she had not been willing to be a team player, a family's sense of discomfort might have continued.
Chelsea's enthusiasm for being in the PICU made everyone's day better despite the circumstances that surround the situations. Her practicing the above characteristics of our core values made her float a professional one.
