I nominate Cathy Renner for the DAISY Award. If there was ever a Super-Human nurse, it is Cathy. As long as I have been on the Central LTC I have admired her for so many things. Cathy can manage a case load with extreme numbers – sometimes 20 – 22 patients and still go out of her way to do special things for them. She buys her patient’s favorite treats, pop, whatever the patient reports to her that they want, Cathy will provide. She is someone who shows her affection for her people in so many ways. In IDG’s she talks about them with so much love and ownership she sometimes “glows.” I honestly have never heard her complain about having too much work to do – thus the really super “humanness’ of her character.
The other quality to Cathy is that she truly is the reason the saying goes, “ask the busiest person in the group to take on an added responsibility.” She is always involved in supporting her team with their technical needs, answering questions about difficult – complex patient care needs, and fulfilling the role as clinical coach (she is often seen with a new staff member that she is orienting). She is also on committees that she is deeply engaged in – HCPO, Shared Leadership, and even picks up for the admissions team when they need her help. I admire her devotion and truly – truly engaged passion for being a nurse and team player for HOC. I‘m glad to be on the same team with Cathy.
