On Tuesday, March 31, I had surgery on top of my head for melanoma. A wound vac that belonged to the hospital was put on my wound after surgery. Because this device belonged to the hospital it was removed a few days later. I didn't have my own from the KCI company yet. I only had a dressing on my head. This dressing MUST be changed every other day.

On Saturday morning, April 4, (Easter weekend) Carrie Materniak, RN phoned the house asking me to come to the Wound Center at Aurora Hospital and she would change the dressing on my wound. It would be too long of a period to wait until Monday.

The Wound Center is closed on weekends. She said she was very concerned about my wound and came in on her own time to treat me. This holiday weekend she said she was having a large crowd coming and had much to prepare for at home but took time to come in anyhow to change my dressing.

This is above and beyond and Carrie deserves the DAISY AWARD for her extraordinary care.
