As a pediatric nurse, we take on many roles including parents, cheerleader, teacher, friend, enemy and drill sergeant. Carol wears many hats with ease, whether she is treating a 2 year old girl or a teenage boy.

Carol graciously volunteers every summer for a local camp for children with cancer. She sits on the camp planning committee to ensure that these kids have at least one week out of the year where they can forget their disease and the hospital and be a 'normal' kid again. She also serves as the president of the local chapter of the Association of Pediatric/Hematology Nurses (APHON).

Carol's research and persistence has brought the Beads of Courage' program to Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital. I encourage everyone to watch the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqfboMNNMWQ to learn more about the program. This is going to do wonders for our children.

It is for all these reasons that Carol should be honored with the DAISY Award.
