Ben literally saved my son's life. My son is 6'4" weighs 230 pounds and is extremely strong. Ben handled him with a determination to save him and give him the best care, whether he had cooperation from my son or not. He never sugar-coated or gave us false hope but at the same time gave encouragement when he saw progress. I absolutely trusted Ben with the life of my son, who is 31 but is my Baby Boy. When he saw my son respond to that nickname, he used it to get reactions. He did everything in his power to save my son and I absolutely believe he did. He kept my son clean and the area around him clean. He asked us questions that would help him determine the best way to handle him. There are no words for the gratitude and respect I and my family have for Ben Patin. If not for him, I would have had to make arrangements for my son's funeral. No doubt in my mind.

My son had a previous drug addiction - Ben picked up on it immediately. He was beginning to have a respiratory ailment before the accident - Ben picked up on it immediately. He needed a stern but gentle approach for my son and was very attentive, non-judgmental and because of his confidence, experience and ability, we, his family, were able to have peace in the worst situation of our lives. There is nothing my family would not do for this man. He is our angel.

The day UMMC employed Ben Patin was the day your hugest asset in nursing entered the building. He would be an asset to any healthcare facility in the world. No award you could give him would be enough. He deserves much much more. I will forever be grateful for the day God brought him into our lives.
