If St. Jude ever had a reason to celebrate a nurse, it would be because of Amy Wastler. From the first day Amy arrived on the campus of St. Jude, she has personified every aspect of an excellent nurse. She has the most upbeat and positive personality and EXUDES compassion for her patients, families and colleagues. She lives her mission in life, which in my words, would be to “HELP ALL”. I see her every day, and with every patient, go that extra mile to provide the best for her patients. She goes above and beyond in everything she does. In addition to her "DAISY" personality, she is an extremely competent nurse. She provides excellent care to her patients and handles emergencies with efficiency and grace.
Recently, she cared for a patient who had severe airway issues before, during and after anesthesia. In addition to providing excellent care for this patient, she collaborated with the healthcare team daily to ensure the continuity of care was maximized. And she praised others for their teamwork and dedication in the process. Please give great consideration to Amy Wastler for the DAISY award. She is THE nurse that J. Patrick Barnes’ family would have embraced had she cared for him.
