Cynthia Sweeney


In her current position, Cynthia D. Sweeney, DNP, MSN, RN, CNOR, NEA-BC, FAAN, CAPT, USNR, NC, Ret is the Vice President for Nursing at the DAISY Foundation. In her role she is engaged in ongoing program development and provides the "nursing view" for The DAISY Foundation programs. In her previous role with ANCC, she provided the oversight for the development and execution of educational products and services that support nursing certification as well as organizational credentialing. The programmatic areas of ANCC that she supported included ANCC Accreditation, Certification, Pathway to Excellence®, and the Magnet Recognition® program. She spent over 40 years in perioperative services as well as in academic and leadership roles. In addition, she served in the Navy Nurse Corps, retiring with the rank of Captain. One of her favorite roles was that of Clinical Nurse Specialist, serving as teacher, mentor and clinician in support of staff to support better outcomes for patients. Cindy received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, in May 2019. In her spare time she and her husband enjoy traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren boating on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
