Julie is someone who has influenced my nursing career greatly and has provided me knowledge that I can take into my nursing career.
Professor Astrella has personally made it her mission to make sure we learn many of the major important components of health and disease to not only pass our NCLEX, but become great nurses. I had Professor Astrella both for clinical last year and this year for N422. In both environments, Professor Astrella treats her students with the same respect as if we were already her nursing colleagues. She has an amazing knowledge base when it comes to nursing, and she is always willing to figure out the answer if by some small chance she doesn't know it herself. I am so thankful that she has been one of our professors. She has helped build the confidence we all need to become great nurses.
Julie's passion for teaching is evident through her commitment to students in clinical, and N422. Not only is she teaching full time, but she is also in school to finish her DNP. She was my clinical instructor for my second ever clinical in cardiology that sparked my interest in cardiology. I am happy to say that I took a new graduate position in cardiology thanks in part to her. Julie has a clear commitment to her students and patients. Even though she has such a busy schedule, she always makes time for each student, she has a natural gift for teaching. Julie always has her door open, and recognizes each of her students.
Julie is a truly dedicated teacher who has a positive influence on all students she teaches. While teaching the most difficult class in Nursing school (N422) she still does not make the information seem insurmountable and helps her students to develop a deep understanding of the material. She is also one of the most approachable professors and is genuinely interested in all of our lives and seeing us succeed in our nursing careers. There is no professor who is as deserving of this award as Julie Astrella.
