One nomination read: "Professor James is one of the most gentle, knowledgeable, patient, and helpful nursing professors I have ever encountered. She was very encouraging in the early nursing communication course, when I personally struggled to present in front of the class. Outside of the classroom, Ann James has aided me in recovering a nursing assistant position at a nearby hospital, writing me a thorough and thoughtful reference letter and checking in on Human Resources throughout my hiring process. She also chose me to assist her in the nursing skills lab at Kent's College of Nursing building. I have watched her interact with students in various nursing classes and she is always so professional, gently pushing each person to think critically and improve their nursing skills. Ann James is an incredible professor, employer and friend. I am not sure I know anyone who is more worthy to win this prestigious award. I could not recommend her enough. Please consider her for this award. Thank you!"
A sceond nomination read: "During the Summer 2017 term clinical for Nursing of Adults, instructed by Ann James, our group was not receiving as many learning experiences as was possible due to characteristics of the floor and the facility. For example, we were asked not to be present for start-of-shift huddle, nurses refused to give report to students, and computer issues. Ann worked tirelessly to sort our technical problems and advocated for her students to the director of the floor in order to allow us to be included in the huddle, to get more relevant patient assignments, and to improve relations with nurse mentors. Ann is an extraordinary instructor that cares deeply for her students and the profession of nursing."
