My husband was a patient on Yu Xinmeng's unit. We are in our 80s and we do not have children. When we were young, we believed that work was enough for us. Now when we are ill we feel lonely and helpless.
We were so fortunate to have Yu as our nurse, who is so lively and smiles a lot. One morning, Yu told my husband that he needed to cough sputum after talking for just a few minutes. My husband used to be a math professor and is very stubborn. He insisted that he did not have sputum and refused to cough. Amazingly, Yu humorously persuaded him to let her pat on his back and he coughed yellow sputum right away. Yu taught us how to cough at least twice a day and help us be aware that this was very important for recovery. Actually, it was the first time we were informed about this after we had visited so many hospitals in Hangzhou.
Later, Yu learned that we do not have children to take care of us. She offered her help and to be there for us. I could feel her understanding, friendship, and empathy, which was very different from pity.
On the day of discharge, Yu and her colleagues helped us pack, go through the discharge process and called a cab for us. As my husband said, they could not treat us better. And we got more! Yu friended me on WeChat and she checked on us from time to time. She is like a daughter that I never had!
We are so grateful for Yu Xinmeng and her colleagues giving us the best care and warmth. Thank you!
