Youssef Belahchich was at DH Conley High School for a family soccer game when he heard someone yelling frantically for help. A young man's mother had fallen unconscious and he was unable to get her to respond. As soon as Youssef heard the cries of help, his nursing skills kicked into action and allowed him to be the first person not only on the scene but the first person there with any medical experience. Using his quick thinking, he was able to tell that 911 was desperately needed and immediately started chest compressions and delegating duties to try and save the woman's life. Despite having coughed stuff up, Youssef continued mouth to mouth until EMS arrived because his main concern was the patient.
Youssef demonstrated his high level of skills not only in front of her son but also in front of his children. Youssef deserves to be recognized for his hard work not just this day, but every day that he comes to work.
When you ask him about the event, he tells you "he was just doing his job." Youssef is hardworking, humble, smart and kind. He treats every patient with the utmost care, respect and compassion. He is a joy to work with and always brings a smile to everyone's face. He truly encompasses the meaning of Vidant's Mission - To improve the health and well-being of Eastern North Carolina.
I am very proud that I get to work alongside not only an amazing person like Youssef but also such a great nurse as well.
