We had a patient who pulled out his tracheostomy tube and was turning blue; Yonas was there right away and took charge of the situation with great leadership skills.
The tracheostomy tube could not be placed by Respiratory Care despite multiple attempts and the patient was getting worse; the O2 sat was 20%, heart rate 35. Yonas kept his composure and remained calm and focused. He was able to insert an ET tube through the trach hole saving the patients' life until more help got there. Yonas did not leave the bedside until he made sure the patient was stable and being wheeled off to OR. He took the initiative to insert a small ET tube.
Yonas is an exceptional nurse always going above and beyond to help with patients and he has an amazing nurse's gut feeling about him with right on the spot suggestions. The incident above commands a lot of respect for this man and his cleverness and dedication to his profession. Yonas is all of what a patient can wish for in a nurse, but he is also very respectful and humble with all the skills that make him a superior nurse. Yonas is an exceptional asset. The more I work with him, the more I realize I have a highly skilled and professional person I can trust with my patients care and even more, a great colleague and friend. I will trust him with my own care when needed.
