I was recently a patient in Hackensack UMC receiving my third session of chemo under a cancer treatment program. I was in 5PW. During this and my previous sessions, one continuous problem existed for both the nurses and the patients alike. The chemo drip line was problematic in that it was constantly getting blocked with "air bubbles". The alarm going off all hours of the day and night was most frustrating for all concerned. Steps were taken by the administration to correct the situation, but not much success was at hand. All nurses on duty were most caring, patient, and compassionate, trying their best to cope.
One day, Yamiris Teel was my nurse. She gave the problem some very serious thought and hung the chemo bag and arranged the drip tube in such a manner that it eliminated the problem for the next 48 hours of my treatment - what a relief! I have no technical knowledge of how she thought this through, but she should be acknowledged for her devoted effort and concern. So often in life, it is the person working with the problem who solves it. Whether her method should be applied throughout the cancer treatment department is not for me to say, but I do feel Yamiris is deserving of the DAISY Award. Thank you for your consideration of Yamiris. I feel less anxious about returning for my upcoming next three sessions of chemo treatment.
