Wilma has time and again demonstrated exemplary leadership underlined by her compassion for patients and commitment to delivering quality care. As a charge nurse, Wilma goes above and beyond her call of duty. She consistently works to support all members of the team by applying her critical thinking and years of experience with each of the patients she interacts with.
Recently, we had a patient who presented with GI issues being prepared for a colonoscopy the following day. He was one of the patients assigned to me. At the start of a busy shift, the patient appeared anxious and had some vague chest discomfort. Because of the patient's animated candor, there was no reason to suspect any issues beyond the possible anxiety of his upcoming procedure. As I tended to my other patients who appeared to be in more critical need, Wilma stepped in as a charge nurse to assist my anxious patient. After Wilma's further assessment and careful consideration of the patient's previous cardiac history, Wilma quickly ran an EKG test during which time we surprisingly noticed an acute MI. Through her quick and targeted assessment, we were able to triage the patient to the more appropriate departments and received the immediate support necessary to transport the patient for a higher level of care in the cardiac unit.
I commend Wilma's consistent dedication to her work and ability to think outside the box which in many cases prove to be life-saving interventions.
