I would like to tell you about the nurse that helped me when I was hospitalized this week. Monday night I was in a lot of pain; to be honest, I thought I was having a heart attack. My husband and I got in the car and I asked him where he was taking me. He said Mercy Fairfield. I told him to turn the car around, I wanted to die at home. I wanted to tell him to take me to Christ, however, he was driving, and we went to Mercy West. I'm a strong believer in God, so I know it was an angel that brought me to Mercy West.
We went in and the lady behind the desk made the call when I told her I was having arm and chest pain. A guy came out and took me back. They worked quickly, so I really was frightened and couldn't ask questions. They did an EKG, blood work, and x-ray. The wait was about 15 minutes and they came back for me and put me in a room.
My ER nurse was Bill Blum. He talked to me, made me feel at ease, put in an IV (no bruises!); I am hard to get blood out of or put in an IV, he was great! He made it a little easier being there. They sent me back to get an MRI, then the doctors came in and told me I had a blood clot in my lung. You can get a sense of how scared I was.
In 1974 my mom died of a blood clot in the lung. I don't deal well with hearing someone has a blood clot, and now it was me. Bill was business-like and very calming, but because he was calm, it gave me a sense of it's going to be okay.
