I was notified by Whitney that the patient we had just transferred out of the ICU was looking unstable. That morning the patient was alert and neither myself nor the ICU staff had any concerns. By the time the patient arrived at 5-W, the patient was somnolent. The vital signs were very concerning prior to transfer. Whitney made note of this as well as the increased lactic acid. The ICU team was notified.
Upon arrival to the patient's room, the ICU fellow felt certain that had he been 5 minutes later the patient would have passed. Whitney's actions almost surely save this woman's life. She ensured a swift transfer back to the ICU. The patient is still in critical condition but is still with us thanks to Whitney's insight and swift action.
It is a pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful healthcare team here at Augusta University. Whitney is one of the many reasons Augusta University provides such excellent health care and is such a wonderful team to be a part of.
