Ambulatory Care is proud to announce Wendy Durand from the Multiple Sclerosis Center at Northwest Hospital as our DAISY honoree. Wendy is a very caring nurse who truly helps her patients. She is knowledgeable about the treatments offered to patients in her clinic and has been described as a great teacher for both patients and staff.
Notably, Wendy received multiple nominations directly from patients. It speaks volumes that patients and family members took the time to write their own thoughtful nominations to ensure that "Nurse Wendy" was recognized. The patient quotes below demonstrate the strong connection of caring that Wendy forms with patients:
"I am a patient at the Northwest MS Center. Wendy has helped me through the toughest time of my life. Waiting to be diagnosed with Susac Syndrome, I was getting Solumedrol infusions through an IV. Wendy was the only one who could start an IV due to my lack of veins. She knew exactly where to go for my 'one special' vein. She then later encouraged me to get a port which I absolutely love now! I didn't know my infusions could be so simple with a port. She makes my daughter feel welcome on infusion days. I couldn't imagine going to my infusions without Wendy! She is so kind-hearted and makes you forget you have an illness, truly a blessing from God. Thank you for giving me an extraordinary, compassionate nurse."
Another patient wrote, "She always has a smile on her face. She tells stories, and connects with her patients to make them feel like they are not even in a hospital. I love Wendy!"
