My precious daddy was admitted to the hospital with extreme shortness of breath. He has always been very strong and healthy, and he takes care of my mom. We found out he had a collapsed lung, pleural effusion in his right lung and a clot in his other lung. My family's world was rocked. We soon discovered he had lung cancer, stage 4. I am his daughter and an RN, I felt extreme pressure to not only care for my dad, but to make sure the care he received was excellent. I felt stressed to the max. Wanda entered my dad's room and treated him and my mom with such grace and respect. As I watch her give excellent care, I was able to relax as a RN and just be my daddy's girl. She brought peace and encouragement in his room each time she entered. She educated my mom and dad in a way that they could understand. When I left, one of the days, she told me she "had this". I knew I was leaving my dad in excellent hands. I can't tell you the relief I felt. She put my dad, mom, sister and me in such ease. She even called on her day off to talk with him to check on him. As a nurse, I can truly say Wanda exhibits and exceeds every quality that this award represents. We know that she will also reap external rewards because she reflects the love of god.
