I just wanted you all to know of the wonderful compliments I received about Wai from a recent patient.
The patient stated she was complaining of her throat feeling as if it was closing up all day yesterday and "everyone" (doctors included) kept telling her it was normal; only offering her pain medications and Ativan. The patient stated it wasn't until Wai came in to assess her that she felt like someone actually listened. She told me Wai didn't hesitate to call the doctors and insist on intervention, recommending steroids. Soon after the patient stated she received a dose of steroids through her IV and began to feel relief. She said she'd been through this type of surgery before and she knew something was wrong and it was so frustrating and scary because she felt no one was listening to her.
The patient wanted me to be sure to tell Wai's Leadership team that she cannot express how much gratitude she feels towards her for actually listening to her.
The patient stressed - "Wai actually listened to me. I can't thank her enough."
So - thank you, Wai, for listening to your patient, utilizing your critical thinking skills and advocating for an intervention that prevented her condition from possibly spiraling to major complications!
