A big thank you to the best nurse in the world. If I wrote ten pages it would not be enough, because words cannot describe how much I appreciate everything Alex did for my father. We have eleven years of hospital experience, and I have never seen a nurse like him, who cared so much for the patient and their family. Alex gave me hope to be strong and to believe that my father would open his eyes. He treated my father like he would treat his own father. I am so thankful he was my father's nurse.

Addressing the patient in this manner is the ultimate demonstration of compassion. By definition, compassion is an inherent quality or trait that enables a nurse to discern the needs, of both the patient and their family members. Alex served as an exemplar of this type of genuine compassion. He was acknowledged by this grateful daughter for emulating the entire list of DAISY attributes; Making special connection with the patient, including the family in the plan of care, educating the patient and their family, collaborating to meet the patient and family members unique needs, going above and beyond the call of duty, providing individualized, compassionate care and living out the hospital vision of excellence.
A bit about Alex, the exceptional human being and nurse. In 2008, he received his Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, while living in his native country, India. Alex is married with one child and another due, anytime. He moved to America in 2013 and joined the Valley Presbyterian family, full time, in October of 2016. From the date of hire, Alex has demonstrated his ability to work in a fast paced and very challenging setting. He does not get flustered in stressful situations and maintains his cool irrespective of the challenge. As a veteran nurse, Alex is known for frequently checking on his peers and consistently offering them a helping hand. Working with various interdisciplinary teams, Alex offers excellent communication, seeking the best plan of care for each patient. Recently, the department was without a charge nurse on night shift. Alex willingly stepped up and ensured the team, as well as the patients, were well- cared for throughout the shift. Alex's manager summarized his value to his Intensive Care Unit colleagues in these words, "Alex is the type of nurse that you hope is on every night that you are scheduled to work. As a team, we greatly appreciate all that Alex has brought to the ICU."
