...What makes Victoria outstanding, in my mind, is her ability to be sensitive and observant, while being extremely professional. For the last year when I walk into OTC and see Victoria at the nurses' station I relax knowing that my infusion will be administered carefully, gently, and precisely. There are 5 areas of Victoria's care that I would like to mention:

1. Communication Skills - Victoria demonstrates excellent communication on both the listening and speaking sides. She listens and comprehends what I am explaining about changes in my condition. She notices the non-verbal changes in how I am communicating from month to month and senses my pain. She explains clearly in non-technical terms anything I ask about. She always researches questions and finds answers.

2. She is advocate - Victoria encourages me to discuss changes in my condition with the interns and rheumatologists when they visit. She is an exceptional link to the doctors as she prepares them as they visit the rheumatology patients. She is flexible when she needs to be, like moving my BP cuff so that it is more comfortable as it takes readings during the long hours of the infusion. She brings my chart over and discusses today's blood tests.

3. I think that attention to detail is very important in avoiding problems during the visit - She always follows the exact protocol - during patient intake, during the infusion, and announcing each medication as she adds it to the infusion lines and she never skips a step.

4. During my infusion time I have observed Victoria, always enthusiastic and collaborating and cooperating with the other nurses on the shift. She provides assistance when they require assistance or when they are busy with a patient and another patient requires attention. She is aware and doesn't need to be asked.

5. Respect - Victoria is exceptional in her respect for her patients, doctors and rules. She is looked up to by her peers who often come to her for advice and tips on how to access a port. 5. In general nurses aren't appreciated enough, but in the case of Victoria she always puts her patients first, while exhibiting care and empathy for all. She is an outstanding caregiver possesses quiet confidence and competence.
