We first met Victoria Bunker when my husband was 5 days post-op following emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction. Although he had been sick for only a day and a half before coming to the ER, his bowel was ischemic and leaking pus and fecal matter. He was septic. Thus, the surgery resulted in a temporary ileostomy, and as it turned out, a lengthy, convoluted recovery.
One of Torie's first days with my husband was one of his worst. He was vomiting and needed his NG tube reinserted. His IV blew and needed to be restarted. His WBC was rising, and his single kidney was failing. He needed a blood draw and multiple specimens collected. All that in just a morning!
Torie was competent, calm, and quick with each procedure. He especially appreciated her skill and efficiency with inserting the NG tube, previously his worst experience.
Along with the more technical and medical aspects of his care, Torie also tended to all the little details of his personal care and his beginning rehab needs for activity out of bed. He always felt comfortable and cared for in these aspects. It was Torie's attention to detail that allowed me to take a break after a week and a half and spend a day with a grandchild and attend a family Christmas gathering confident that my husband was in excellent hands while I was gone.
In addition to competent care, my husband appreciated Torie's positive energy and genuine interest in him. He felt that she advocated for him and answered our many questions knowledgeably and with kindness and patience. He says that Torie is an all-around A+, #1 person, and nurse.
He was hospitalized in the Bariatric Unit for 24 days, and we had the privilege of Torie's care many times.
