Our father was admitted because he had belly pain and we found out it was an aneurysm that the doctors were unable to operate on. They said we will control his blood pressure, let him heal then send him home to us. But unfortunately, this did not happen. He became very confused and violent at times that they had a security guard in his room. We were shocked needless to say because our dad was the most gentle, soft-spoken person there is. Our mother died 2 years ago and that was hard on all of us, especially our dad.
Vickie isthe most compassionate, empathetic, sympatheticnurse there is. Without her, we would not have been able to get through this terrible time. She spent literally hours speaking to the doctors to get the right medication started so our dad could rest. We could tell the doctors were giving her a hard time but she would not give up and insisted on getting him the right medications. Finally, Dad was feeling better but we knew in our heart that he would not be "Dad" because he still was very confused and needed a lot of oxygen. She sat with us, hugged Dad and us, prayed with us, cried with us. You could tell she loved what she did and not just a job and treated us like family. In the end, she had called pastoral care before we had time to ask. She had a comfort cart sent to make sure we were taken care of. We have never met such a compassionate nurse as Vickie is.She deserves every DAISY award available! Aspirus is so very lucky to have a nurse like Vickie.
Note: This is Vickie's 2nd DAISY Award!
