My sister and I would like to nominate Ulanda Brown, RN for the Daisy Award. We had the pleasure of meeting Ulanda after our mother was in ICU for many days. We were very worried and saddened as we continued to watch our mother in such a helpless and critical state. Ulanda was a breath of fresh air for us. We felt she not only showed compassion, but she also expressed empathy. She was with our mother the first time she opened her eyes. As Ulanda saw us walking into the ICU on one of our many visits, in her joyful voice she said, "I have a surprise for you guys." She said that she had gotten our mother to open her eyes, and she would get her to open them for us. Amazingly, as we stood at her bedside, Ulanda called out her name and she opened her eyes! We were so happy and at that point we had a lot more hope. For my sister and I this was a hallelujah moment! This showed that Ulanda not only wanted our mother to feel better, but she also wanted us to feel better.
