My adult daughter, was recently hospitalized for 11 days, the first few days in the ICU. All of the nursing and staff care she received was excellent. We were particularly helped by her night nurse, Tyler Jensen.Three things that Tyler did so impressed and helped us.
First, Tyler's continual vigilance in his care for our daughter. He obviously knew what he was doing and what needed to be done. My wife and I knew she was in good hands.
The second thing was Tyler's concern for us as parents. He not only answered our questions, but when we didn't even know what questions to ask, he explained what he was doing, what was happening, and the "why" behind what was going on. That was so helpful to us. The two nights that we were able to go home overnight, Tyler phoned us in the morning before he ended his shift to update us on what had happened during the night and what we could expect when we got to the hospital.
Finally, Tyler showed such compassion for all of us. I felt like he really understood what we were going through and he cared. He often asked what he could do for us.
Now here's the above and beyond moment. Our daughter had been moved out of ICU, and when he was nextatthe hospital, Tyler tracked her down and stopped by her room to check on her. That combination of competence and caring seems to be what nursing is all about.
We are grateful beyond what words can express.
