Tyler is an amazing, compassionate, and extraordinary nurse and has helped our family more than we can ever thank him for. My mom had a 5-day visit to the Christiana Hospital this past week, and she was lucky to have Tyler as her nurse for 2 or 3 of those days. My mom is fully disabled and needs 24 hour around the clock care. She cannot speak clearly and cannot do anything for herself. Tyler went out of his way numerous times to make sure that my mom was comfortable and that she had everything she needed. His care was exceptional. His dedication showed in the way he spoke to and cared for her and took the time to learn about her needs. My dad told him about an assistive technology device that they had used in a previous hospital visit that allowed for my mom to blow into a tube as a call button since she cannot move her fingers to push a button. Then Tyler searched for and found said device and attached it to the bed for my mom. He watched, eager to learn, as my dad showed him how it worked. He was genuinely impressed with this device.
A little back story- My dad takes care of my mom 100% on his own with no assistance from outside help or financially of any kind. He has done this for years. As I said, she requires 24hr care, since she has MS, and is completely immobile. My mom has been turned down for state and other types of assistance multiple times and it has led to a lot of frustration. My dad can't work because he can't leave my mom's side. It has been taxing on their mental health, financial situation, and my dad's physical health having to lift my mom to move her. After witnessing my dad be an advocate for my mom, and seeing all he does, and also hearing my parents' story, Tyler realized that something didn't sound right about my parents not being able to receive any assistance. He spoke to two different people at the hospital and ended up having a social worker come and talk to my parents. The social worker told my parents they do qualify for assistance and helped them get all the necessary paperwork in for them to apply for assistance. My mom was approved and they should be getting assistance in the form of a nurse to come out to their house to help my dad, and some financial help as well. I have watched my parents suffer for over 10 years while person after person told them they can't help them. We will never be able to thank Tyler enough for his compassion and forward thinking and for how he has changed our family for the better and brought my parents a better quality of life. Christiana Care is very lucky to have him as part of their team; he is the epitome of an Extraordinary Nurse who exceeded the needs and expectations of our family.
