Trisha Ford was nominated by her peers for providing outstanding care to a postoperative patient and his family. The patient was experiencing pain after his surgical procedure and Trisha ensured that his pain was effectively managed with repositioning and medication. As the patient’s pain worsened and his condition began to deteriorate, she quickly acted with her intensive care expertise and sound clinical judgment. She immediately informed the anesthesiologist of the patient’s symptoms, and an electrocardiogram was ordered. When the results revealed an acute myocardial infarction was in evolution, Trisha administered the necessary medications. She never left the patient’s bedside during this time of crisis and handled herself with professionalism and poise.
Trisha allowed the family to stay with the patient, included them in his care, and kept them well-informed. Her calm and soothing demeanor helped to de-escalate what normally would have been a hectic environment. The patient was eventually transferred to another facility for a cardiac catheterization and later discharged from the hospital. A co-worker says, “Trisha always puts the needs of her patients and their families, as well as those of her peers, before her own.”
UPMC St. Margaret commends Trisha Ford for her compassionate care and commitment.
