This year at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital we decided to add an award for Nursing Leadership. The DAISY Nurse Leader Award gives staff, patients and families a way to express their gratitude for the compassionate environment Nurse Leaders provide.
Trezere Brown is a role model for compassion, exemplary practice and extraordinary behavior. She creates an environment that fosters care and compassion, trust, mutual respect and ethical behavior. She motivates staff with a shared vision and enthusiasm to achieve better outcomes for themselves and for their patients. She is accessible, available and responsive to the needs of others, encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving for individuals within the context of team work. She promotes and enhances the image of Nursing within our organization, community and profession.
***
Trezere attempts to keep her department staffed appropriately, she will even staff herself on night shift to make sure her patients are cared for adequately. She always has a smile on her face even when she has got to be ready to cry! She does not know what "That's not my job" means.
***
Trezere goes above and beyond in any situation and displays a great attitude in her leadership position. She always offers help to not only her staff, but patients too, giving those patients the care that they deserve. She has the characteristics of a great leader and proves this each and every day. She is a huge part of the success we strive to have every day.
***
I saw her working very hard while on a code blue patient, very inspiring!
***
Trezere does not mind helping. She does not mind changing briefs, passing ice or changing IVs. She is easy to talk to and I don't feel scared or uncomfortable talking to her about an issue. I know if I bring it up, she will handle it.
***
I feel that Tresere exemplifies what it means to be a leader. She always has a smile on her face and exhibits a positive attitude. She is constantly striving to make her unit better by keeping her staff aware of Baptist policies and procedures and of changes to them. She is always willing to step in and help whenever needed. She is very involved with her staff and patients. She is a bright spot in our day.

And finally her leader Danna Barkley BSN, RN Director of Medical Surgical and Neuro/Ortho/Onco Units had these words for her:
It has been a year not without its bumps and bruises and you have come out on top! You built a strong team on Ortho-Neuro-Onco. The compassion you have for your staff, as well as each patient that enters your unit is what makes you stand out. You are a Great Nurse Leader. Ortho-Neuro-Onco is lucky to have you and I am lucky you put up with me! You deserve this award and recognition as DAISY Nurse Leader of the Year!
Note: This is Trezere's second DAISY Award!
