Much was written about Trang by her nominator. The words below, taken from the original nomination, are a tribute to Trang's compassion and professionalism:

Trang had the opportunity to meet with the wife of a patient who spoke only Vietnamese. Trang speaks Vietnamese fluently so she talked with the wife. The woman was concerned about her husband's condition and how much longer he might be in the hospital.

The couple lived out of town and had been at KU for weeks already. She was tired, hungry and had little family support. Upon further discussion, Trang found out that the wife did not want to bother the staff nurses for help with her needs.

She asked Trang if there was a washer and dryer at KU. She also asked Trang many questions about her husband. He was intubated and would not likely leave for weeks. As the two spoke, the wife began to cry. Trang told her she would visit again tomorrow when she worked and offered to take home the woman's laundry.

The next day, Trang came to work with the laundry and also with several dishes of Vietnamese take-out food she had bought for the wife. The wife was very thankful and the next day, gave Trang a bouquet of flowers. To this day, this woman still texts Trang occasionally to let her know how her husband is doing.
