Tracey exhibits an unparalleled level of passion for the nursing profession and Newark Wayne Community Hospital since the first day she started here. As a brand new nurse everyone expects some level of excitement and enthusiasm, but Tracey’s love for her job truly comes from the heart. Her passion for the nursing profession is obvious to anyone that comes in contact with her. That passion is the driving force that makes her not only an excellent clinical nurse but an excellent caring nurse.
If you were to walk by Tracey while she was in a room with a patient you would think it was a friend or family member visiting with them. She talks to all of her patients with genuine human interest and caring in her voice. She wants to know all about them, their lives, and what she can do to provide them with the best patient experience.
In the ICU we sometimes have patients that are unable to vocalize their needs but Tracey spends just as much time with them as with any other patient, calming and reassuring them that everything will be okay. I have had the pleasure of listening to many families sing high praises of Tracey. They are amazed with the amount of time she spends with their family member or with them personally, even if it was just listening. In such a fast paced, critical environment Tracey takes the time to ensure that every patient feels loved and cared about on a personal level.
Not only does Tracey care about her patients but cares about all the members of the ICU team. She plays an active role in the ICU Unit Counsel serving as Vice President and she is also a contributing partner in the Sunshine fund that helps raise money for the unit. Since she started here in the ICU Tracey has always been willing to jump in to help out her team members whether it be going to a code as the ENIT nurse, taking on the Charge Nurse role, or floating to another unit. She is not only an integral member of our ICU team but Newark Wayne Community Hospital as a whole.
I am honored to work side by side with Tracey and as a fellow RN it gives me such pride in the nursing profession to have her in our ICU. I cannot think of anyone more deserving and fitting of the DAISY Award than Tracey Zimmerman, RN and I know that anyone that meets her would feel the exact same way!
