My father had open heart surgery; he had a bypass graft and a valve replacement. After the surgery was done and an hour had past, my mom, sister and I were called in to see him for the very first time. Torres was my father's nurse and met us by his bedside.
Torres introduced himself and began to explain everything that was attached to my father. He was so kind and thorough. Torres was so knowledgeable about everything. He was explaining the chest tube when I began to feel faint I looked across at Torres and explained that I needed a chair. The next thing I remember, I was waking up on the floor. It was explained to me that Torres caught me before I hit the ground. I can't thank him enough for that. I certainly would've hit my head and hurt myself a great deal had he not caught me. Torres is truly a role model for all nurses. He came to check on me throughout the day.
When we came back the next day, Torres was working in another unit, however, he stopped in to see our family and to check on my dad and me. He is amazing.

Torres was the first nurse I met after my sister's open heart surgery. He demonstrated knowledge, concern and compassion. He was meticulous with her care and in attendance always.
Two days later I met him and expressed my disappointment in my sister's progress. He assured me and carefully and thoroughly explained the reasons why her recovery was right on track considering her age and medical history (which he remembered). He gave me a pep talk which greatly relieved me.
Whenever I saw him he always asked for my sister. When he took her for an MRI, he took the time to seek me out to let me know how this had gone.
He is, by far, the most dedicated, intelligent, and kind nurse I had ever encountered.
