Our baby was transferred from Round Rock Hospital to Temple Scott and White NICU due to breathing complications. He was assigned to Blue tower in the NICU and we will be forever grateful for the staff that was assigned to care for our precious baby boy. All of the staff in the Blue Tower were tremendous so to nominate an individual is hard. On day shift, Tonya L. always went above and beyond to care for our precious boy. She was very knowledgeable and would explain to us what he was getting in his fluids and why he was getting them.
When I first was released from Round Rock to be with my newborn son she explained to me what happened the night before and spent the extra time explaining the ventilator, feeding tube, central line, arterial line, and the overall plan. She also helped get me set up to pump right next to our baby so I didn't have to leave him for 20-30 minute every 3 hours. Tonya not only made sure he was cared for but she was constantly asking me as a recovering mom if I needed anything. Even on days she wasn't assigned to my baby, she would check on him and even made him a wonderful name sign with an airplane on it for him. It's currently hanging in his nursery.
It's amazing to me how much teamwork there is. When Tonya was free she would help other nurses with caring for their patients. It was the hardest 9 days of our lives and to have a caring nursing staff made all the difference. She was friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and very compassionate to all patients she cared for while we were there. She will be in our hearts for the rest of our lives.
