My father was recently a patient in your hospital. He spent 10 days in the hospital and at times could be a handful. He is 92 years old and is scared to death of needles and basically anything medically being done to him. Thankfully we have a large family and one of us was able to stay with him the entire time, day and night. Every nurse dad had was outstanding and Tonya did an absolutely fabulous job of respecting dad's fears and had such a great bedside manner. Tonya was able to keep dad calm and explained what she was doing and why doing it in words dad and his kids could understand. If we put the call light on, Tonya answered it immediately. Tonya was on the night shift and was checking on dad constantly even without a call light. Tonya held dad's hand and made sure he calmed down before she would leave him. Tonya always made sure we knew what she was doing and why she was doing it and always asked if we had questions. Tonya also repositioned dad often and always checked for bed sores. When his oxygen got below 90, Tonya monitor dad and do her nursing skills to help his breathing. Tonya always made sure dad's hospital gown wasn't bunched up and his bedding was clean and comfortable. Dad was in great hands with Tonya and New Hampton is lucky to have her.
